“Strengthening the capacity and resources for victims of domestic violence”

Within the framework of the BEARR Trust & INTRAC Central Asia project “Strengthening the capacity and resources for victims of domestic violence”, exchange visits were held between public organizations of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

In Kyrgyzstan, the project was aimed at providing crisis centers and shelters with new resources – benefits for social work with victims, editions on women’s rights, personal and family issues, and a set of specialized children’s books for joint reading.

Unique editions in Russian represent both classical and alternative approaches to studying and working with discrimination and violence in the family and society. In Bishkek, a number of reading clubs were held in attracting specialists, experts and readers on the basis of libraries, public organizations and universities.

Center “Sezim” is one of the partners of this project, and we have been provided with a specialized mini-library to support work with victims of violence. Books are actively used in working with clients, readings are held to increase the potential of employees and volunteers of our center. Children’s literature is used for joint reading in the shelter.

After the visit of the delegation from Kyrgyzstan to Almaty, May 11, 2017 Kazakh partners in this project visited Bishkek and became participants in an expanded discussion on women’s rights in Central Asia, protection from gender-based and domestic violence in neighboring countries. The meetings were held on the basis of the INTRAS office, Center “Sezim” and American University of Central Asia.
